Dogs Are a Great Reality Check

Why do weekends fly by so fast — even when they’re extra long?? As I mentioned in my last post, Brandon and Kim (friends from Calif.) came to visit us for the long Labor day weekend. We had a lot of fun with them and stayed super busy. Some of the highlights included a ride on the Georgetown Loop Railroad and a tour or an old silver mine, gambling in BlackHawk, a quick tour of Golden, a visit to good ol’ Outdoor World, lunch at the Brown Palace – an old, cool hotel owned by the Unsinkable Molly Brown’s family, a quick stop at A Taste of Colorado downtown, some movie-watching, shopping, plenty of Wii-playing, some games of ping pong, and lots and LOTS of eating. By the end of the weekend, I could have easily skipped plenty of meals and still have been full!

Here are some pics of the weekend festivities:

Joe’s Crab Shack. YUM!

Mike doesn’t like crab…

Who’s the crazy?? =)

Since our weekend wasn’t busy enough, after dropping Kim and Brandon off at the airport on Monday morning, Mike and I rushed back home to clean up and get ready for the Labor Day bbq we had planned. Mike busted out his bbqing skills and made some really yummy ribs and chicken, and we stuffed ourselves once again with an enormous amount of food. We spent the day eating and hanging out with family, friends and family and friends’ dogs. Perfect way to spend a day off. =)

Now that our vacation-like weekend is over, it’s back to reality. Bailey was sure to remind us of that when he woke us up at 3 a.m. on Tuesday night. Actually, I should say his smell woke us up. He had stomach issues, in our bedroom, on our carpet. Nothing like busting out the simple green and carpet shampooer in the middle of the night and then trying to fall back asleep at 4 in the morning with chemical fumes wafting through your bedroom. He’s REALLY lucky he’s cute. And Kim and Brandon are REALLY lucky they had already left!

  1. Aww, hope Bailey is feeling better. I knew a Bailey too. He was a golden retriever, the greatest dog. Sounds like your BBQ was a hit!

  2. Poor Bailey! And poor you! We ARE lucky we had already left. His gas was bad enough…

  3. Great pics! you guys all look so happy! Josh and I rode our bikes to the Joe’s Crab Shack in Fisherman’s Wharf in S.F. but we got there too late and it was closed… we went to Hooter’s next door instead… :( hahah
