A Taste of the Big Apple

Yesterday Mike and I were driving to work and I heard a commercial on the radio that said all Southwest flights out of Denver are currently 50 percent off. I was half asleep so I wasn’t sure if I heard right, but when I got to work I checked out the website the commercial mentioned, www.southwest.com/denver, and it was true! If you book a flight before Dec. 12 for travel dates between January and the first week of March, it’s half off!

My friend Caitlin moved to New York City over the summer, and since I’ve never been there, I’ve been really wanting to go visit her and check out New York. Since we have so much traveling to do this summer/fall for weddings, I figured it wasn’t going to fit into our budget. BUT, with this Southwest deal I was able to get a roundtrip ticket to Long Island for only $160! A price I couldn’t pass up! So in February, I’m flying to Long Island, taking a 1.5 hour train ride to the city, and meeting up with Caitlin for a long weekend touring around New York! I’m so excited! I’ve always wanted to visit the city but have never had the opportunity. I’ve never even been on the East Coast! It’s going to be quite an adventure, and I can’t wait! Mike’s not coming as he’s not really into big cities, and he doesn’t really have any vacation time. I’m a bit disappointed he won’t be there to experience it with me, but I know I’m still going to have tons of fun. And I know my friend Caitlin will be a great tour guide!

Now I just have to decide what I want to do and see while I’m there. So much to choose from! Any suggestions?

In other news, yesterday I did something really embarassing. Mike and I had just gotten home from work and I walked down to the mailbox at the end of our driveway to check the mail. I’m walking back up, with the mail and a dish from my to-go breakfast that morning in my hand, when all of a sudden I step on a patch of ice and I’m going down. One minute I’m standing, the next I’m laying flat on my back on our driveway. Mike was standing right there looking at me in shock. It all happened so fast — he said I looked like I just gave up. And I actually did. The second I felt myself slip, I knew there was no stopping it so I concentrated on falling in the least painful way possible. I lifted up my hands and head and went down right on my cusion-y butt. I didn’t hit any other part of my body against the pavement, and I didn’t even break the glass dish in my hand. So I guess if I had to fall, at least I did it with the least amount of damage possible. It was a little embarrassing though. Luckily Mike was the only one who saw! I guess high-heeled boots aren’t a good choice for a snowy day…
